Corporate responsibility

Sustainability is at the core of our corporate responsibility strategy: helping to shape the future in a way that provides economic, ecological and social benefits for all. We have a wide-range of commitments in this area, all of which have been chosen to reinforce our core business principles of quality, unity and integrity. Pro bono and volunteering

We will support and encourage you to use your legal knowledge and other professional skills for the benefit of those who are disadvantaged, under-privileged or lack access to the advice that we can offer.

When you join us, you will be able to undertake voluntary work during office hours for up to 14 hours a year. Many of our staff choose to give up significant amounts of their own time too. We are involved in a number of projects with the primary focus on our local community, including:

  • Law centres. We participate in evening drop-in clinics at Croydon and Sutton Law Centre (south London) and at Tower Hamlets Law Centre in Whitechapel (east London). The scope of advice needed is wide; people walk in with all manner of issues, often related to employment, consumer problems, housing and debt.
  • The Free Representation Unit in London. The unit provides people with representation at tribunals on employment, social security and child support appeals, as well as handling some immigration and criminal injury compensation cases.
  • The Citizens Advice Bureau at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. which specialises in civil litigation and procedural matters. Many of those seeking advice are litigants in person, who are bringing or defending legal proceedings without a solicitor. We provide legal advice and assistance with drafting and presenting court documents.
  • Southwark Education Business Alliance. (and previously Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership). Volunteers go into Tower Bridge primary school every lunch time to provide reading and maths support and, on Thursday afternoons, our volunteers run a football club.
  • Our “Together for Sport” programme. The initiative is aimed at giving both financial and practical support to a number of sporting charities and clubs whose activities target disadvantaged or disabled children and young people in London.
  • Southwark Helping Hands Club. We provide financial contributions and practical help in a mumber of ways to this group for people with learning and physical disabilities. We assist with sports, art and life skills activities.
